PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS

Problem: I'm too shy.
Solution: I can dig this, but it's anonymous.  No one will ever know it is you unless you tell them.

Problem: I have no good stories.
Solution: I don't believe you. Listen to yourself while you're out with friends, relaxed and having fun.  Or to your own inner monologue as you go about your day. You'll find a lot of memories and stories that you gloss over because they are a normal part of your narrative and memories. Give them some credence!

Problem: I don't want it to suck.
Solution: It will not suck.   A story delivered with genuine emotion is always compelling.  Relax and have fun doing it!

Problem: Like, what kinda story?
Solution: Quite literally, any kinda story.  As long as it is interesting, true, and anonymous.

Problem: I don't know how to record it.
Solution: You have some options here depending on your hardware.

At the most basic level, you can record your story using the "video" function on your phone (place it so your face isn't showing, and talk nice and loud), then email it to me. You may need to break it up into chunks to get it under the file size requirements for most email servers, or upload it first to a free file transfer service (wetransfer.com does it for free and without needing to sign up for an account).

If you have a Mac, use GarageBand. Just open a new project and select "Voice" as your instrument.  Once the new project is open, just click the record button to start recording...then start talking!  Same deal as above for the file size requirements.

If you have a specific suggestion or question, leave it in the comment section!

General tips:

Use your comfort zone.  If you feel weird recording yourself in front of a bunch of people, do it alone!  If you feel weird telling a story to an empty room and a computer, have some folks around.  It's ok if we can hear them, as long as the focus is on you!

Tell it once before recording so you can refresh yourself on the details.

Don't forget to put your phone on silent, but don't stress if some background noise is audible (lawnmowers, cats, etc... preferably not both, that would be tragic and messy).

Talk nice and loud, but naturally.  Do a test first, then listen to it and make sure it is easily heard.  Then talk that loud or louder for your story.

Don't skimp on the details!  Stay focused on your story, but don't be afraid to be thorough or to get a little sidetracked.

Record it all in one sitting.  You can go back and edit, or restart, but it is difficult to keep audio sounding consistent and uniform over multiple days/recordings.

I look forward to hearing your stories! Email me or comment here if I can help!
